Indifference Is No Longer an Option

Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, "Silence in the face of evil is evil itself."
Our beloved country of Canada is at a crossroads. The events of the next several months will determine the future of Canada and what it will look like for generations to come—not just regarding questions of policy, regulation, and law, but on profoundly consequential matters such as the very fabric, direction, and identity of our dominion.
Trudeau has declared Canada to be a "post-national state" with "no national identity." Now, we appear to be moving in the direction of new Liberal leadership, with Mark Carney at the helm. Compared to Trudeau's juvenile mind, Carney possesses a sharp, hard-nosed business intellect with a track record and public platform that make Trudeau's New World Order and extreme climate agenda seem elementary at best. Carney is not just dangerous for Canada but for the free world.
I could give you many examples of detrimental policies that would likely be implemented should the Liberals be afforded another four years of their misguided governance. Here is one that seems to be flying under the radar but could profoundly affect the fabric and identity of Canada.
Just before Christmas, a finance committee report was tabled in Ottawa. The report contained over 400 recommendations for the 2025 budget. Two of these recommendations would remove charitable status from certain organizations that are currently registered charities in Canada and are tax-exempt. Recommendation 429 targets charities such as crisis pregnancy centres, while Recommendation 430 affects faith-based organizations or, under CRA rules, institutions whose charitable purpose is the "advancement of religion."
Over 32,000 of these charities currently exist in Canada. They include our churches, synagogues, and various places of worship, but also organizations that operate food banks, soup kitchens, shelters, addiction centres, youth ministries, and much more.
This is nothing less than an all-out attack on religious freedom in Canada. If adopted, these measures would destroy our charitable sector, decimating many treasured organizations that are present in cities and towns from coast to coast to coast. These organizations are part of the fabric that knits us together as a nation and have been for generations. They help define a large part of our national identity.
The tax implications under CRA rules would be devastating, forcing places of worship to dispose of their equipment, supplies, and properties to comply with the dictates of an out-of-control, out-of-touch, and dare I say, rogue federal government.
I have said many times that Canada should be the wealthiest, freest country on the planet. These measures are yet another attack from those elected to keep Canada secure, prosperous, and free. This is but one example of what lies ahead under, God forbid, another Liberal (Marxist dogma-driven) term. I can only speak for myself, but speak I will! I have had enough of their fake empathy and the absolute disdain they seem to have for Canada to last a lifetime.
Bonhoeffer was right—this is not the time to be silent. More than ever in my lifetime, we must speak up. We must fight for the future of our nation, for our children, their children, and their children’s children.
No political party is perfect, and mistakes will be made in untangling the immeasurable mess Trudeau has left in his wake. However, I believe that the Conservative Party of Canada, under the leadership of Pierre Poilievre, along with an army of like-minded men and women across this nation, is by far the best option. Together, we can steer Canada back on course, securing the future and the fabric of this great nation that we share and love.
Once again, I ask for your support during the imminent nomination process. Be sure your CPC membership is current, allowing you to vote at the nomination meeting for the nominee of your choice to represent Thunder Bay–Rainy River in the impending federal election.
Together, let’s "Bring it Home."
Craig Hussey
Nomination Candidate for MP, Thunder Bay - Rainy River
