“WE HAVE A PLAN…” (sure you do)

I am writing this Tuesday evening, March 24, after listening to Question Period today on C-PAC from the House of Commons in Ottawa.
Carney, as is often the case, was absent today from Question Period. As Conservative members of the House grilled the Liberal government, a recurring speaking point was very noticeable from the array of Liberal ministers, secretaries of state, and backbenchers who spoke:
“WE HAVE A PLAN…”(Sure you do.)
Mark Carney has been Prime Minister for over a year. We are now well into our eleventh year of continuous Liberal governments in Ottawa.
But don’t worry folks… “WE HAVE A PLAN.”
Let’s look at several metrics and see how “THE PLAN” is working out for Canada.
Immigration
Auditor General Karen Hogan just released a bombshell report on student immigration fraud that three — yes, three — consecutive Liberal immigration ministers have failed to address. To make matters worse, two were promoted to new cabinet posts (Sean Fraser, now Justice Minister; Marc Miller, now Heritage Minister), and one is still Canada’s Immigration Minister (Lena Metlege Diab).
According to the Auditor General, there are over 153,000 cases of non-compliant study permits, with only 4,057 attempts to investigate them.
Of those, more than 1,600 were not followed up on simply because the person being investigated did not answer their email.
Of the roughly 800 cases that were closely examined, 710 were found to involve individuals claiming to attend education facilities overseas that did not exist or were selling qualifications for immigration purposes.
The report also stated that after examining the status of 549,000 individuals whose study permits expired in 2024, around 93% (509,500 people) were allowed to remain in Canada.
All the while, youth unemployment in Canada has skyrocketed to over 14%, and student unemployment (ages 17 to 19) has reached a staggering 19%.
Brutal.
But remember folks… “WE HAVE A PLAN.”
Personal Autonomy and Freedom of Speech
Bill C-9, which just passed first reading in the House of Commons, is an Orwellian piece of legislation stripping away the religious exemption for freedom of speech that has been enshrined in Canadian law for decades.
Bill C-22 — the end of digital privacy in Canada — gives the government a back door to your online data, compelling providers to store metadata for 12 months and make that data available to the government without a warrant.
Then our illustrious Public Safety Minister, Gary Anandasangaree, says:
“Don’t worry, we won’t use it on ordinary Canadians.”
The major issue here is this:
Who decides what is “hate speech”?Who decides what the criteria is for an “ordinary Canadian”?
In the case of C-9, I am a person of strongly held convictions. What I believe, I believe. No amount of money, influence, or persecution will change that. For the moment, we are still permitted to stand on our principles in Canada.
C-9 will challenge that.
In the case of C-22, I would consider myself an ordinary Canadian.Gary Anandasangaree would most likely disagree with that assessment. Why?Simply because I am a legal firearm owner, and suddenly, for some ideological reason, I am a problem that must be dealt with.
The solution?Another misguided, money-wasting bill known as C-21, pushed onto law-abiding, fully trained firearm owners in Canada.
But don’t worry folks… “WE HAVE A PLAN.”
The Economy and Natural Resources
We could write pages on this, but for a moment let’s look at our natural resources.
Several weeks back, an LNG tanker loaded with Australian natural gas docked in eastern Canada.
Meanwhile, the Canadian waters that vessel sailed over hold estimated reserves of up to:
65 trillion cubic feet in the Scotian Shelf and basin
50 trillion cubic feet on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland
Additional reserves in the Labrador Sea, Davis Strait, and Baffin Bay
Up to 200 trillion cubic feet in Alberta
Significant reserves in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Quebec
We alone could power planet Earth for centuries.
The world is begging for this resource, but in the infamous words of Justin Trudeau, there is“not a business case.”
A little of my Newfoundland heritage is going to come through here…
I have more experience digging worms on the moon than Trudeau has sense about business.
I will go further than that.
If Carney’s first year is any indication, in spite of his polished résumé, he is not much better.
Instead of looking at MOUs, photo shoots, riddle-filled speeches, and trips around the world, let’s look at outcomes:
2.2 million Canadians using food banks
Staggering youth unemployment
An $80-billion-plus deficit
Trade deals almost nonexistent
Major projects cancelled, such as the recent CNRL oil sands expansion
Investment fleeing Canada
Top business minds leaving at alarming rates
Resources locked in the ground because of regulation and red tape
But don’t sweat it folks…“WE HAVE A PLAN.”
Northwestern Ontario — The Jewel of the North
Here in Northwestern Ontario, we can be considered the Jewel of the North.
The wealth of conventional and critical minerals under our feet is staggering.
We have:
The western-most deep-water port in Canada, with access to tidewater nearly 10 months of the year
Rail lines to and from that port (pipelines would be nice as well)
A world-class airport with room to expand
Connection to the Trans-Canada highway network (decades overdue for upgrading)
A large graving dock and shipbuilding/repair facility, currently sitting idle
Massive forest resources
World-class dairy farms
World-class university and colleges
I could go on.
The potential in this region is enormous.
It is high time we had some vision to match.
Ideological overtures will not unlock that potential.
Only hard work, vision, and the courage not to fear change will get things moving.
I have great hope for this great region, and for this great land we call Canada.
Conservatives do have a plan — a great plan for Canada.Let’s put it in motion and work together as we build a prosperous, secure, and beautiful future for us all.
God bless you all, and God bless this great nation of Canada.
Nomination Announcement
The Conservative Party of Canada will soon hold a nomination meeting for the Thunder Bay–Rainy River riding to select the candidate who will represent our party in the next federal election.
I am seeking the Conservative nomination because I believe our region deserves strong representation in Ottawa — someone who will stand up for Northwestern Ontario and the issues that matter most to our communities.
The nomination process gives local Conservatives the chance to choose their candidate directly.
To participate in the vote, you must be a member of the Conservative Party of Canada in good standing.
Memberships must be purchased at least 21 days before the nomination meeting in order to vote.
If you would like to take part in the nomination process and support my campaign, please make sure your membership is active before the deadline.
