Where Are The Statesmen?

  • Feb 3, 2025

An American clergyman in the 19th. century J.F. Clarke said... "A politician thinks of the next election. A statesman, of the next generation."

As a country we find ourselves at a crossroads where we must decide what the future of Canada will look like for generations to come. However, we stand at this juncture in a very weakened and vulnerable position, simply because our federal policy has been forged by politicians (weak, corrupt, inept and misguided politicians at that) instead of by statesmen, who make policy based on the long view and not the next election to secure their own pensions.

No country in the world can match the extremely valuable natural resources we have under our feet and under our seas. We are by far the wealthiest nation per capita in a plethora of untouched wealth, oil, gas, minerals, wood products, agriculture, wild fish, aquaculture and the list goes on.

How then have we arrived at this point in history? May I submit this answer:

Too many politicians and too few statesmen!

As I write this today...

  • Parliament is prorogued

  • We have a lame duck Prime Minister

  • The ruling liberal minority government is in the midst of an internal power struggle.

  • We have the lowest GDP per capita in the G7

  • There is a productivity crisis in our country

  • We are in a trade war with our neighbour and largest trading partner.

  • Crime, immigration, hard drug use, inflation, government spending are all out of control

  • Our military is decimated

  • We are taxed to the breaking point

  • Our federal debt and deficit are ridiculous

  • Then to add some icing to the cake the USA is calling for Canada to surrender its sovereignty and become the 51st state.

WHERE DO I START?

First: NO Donald Trump we will not become the 51st. state of the USA. We are a strong independent nation and we intend to stay that way. Understand, we have been governed by idiots for the past decade, what we see currently in Ottawa is NOT a reflection of the Canadian people. Every nation on earth including the USA have endured periods in their history where weak un-statesmen like politicians have governed causing chaos and decline. We are at the end of that era now in Canada (Thank God), we will emerge from this lost decade as a people, stronger, more resilient with a will to fight for our country and our national identity than ever before. So thanks for your 51'st state offer but NO THANKS!

We must and will:

  • Reopen parliament so the business of this great nation can be carried out under the banner of democracy, not by the Trudeau regime in a back room subverting the will of the Canadian people. Canada must be placed first, not the political fortunes of the liberal party.

  • Rapidly permit development. Oil and gas, pipelines, plants and refineries, mines, housing and a host of other projects that will once again bring our economy roaring back to life giving us independence and prosperity greater than what we have ever seen in this century.

  • Take control of immigration, our border, crime, illicit drug use and corruption at all levels. None of these are conducive to a strong, independent, prosperous nation. This has to be addressed and cleaned up.

  • Fund and equip our military, creating a warrior instead of a woke culture, rebuilding a fighting force that any man or woman would once again be extremely proud to join and be a part of. A military once again respected on the world stage!

  • Reduce taxes and regulation allowing small business to grow and thrive, creating an environment where small, medium and large size business will be biting at the bit to invest in this resource rich, innovative, cutting edge economy.

  • Rein in reckless government spending and put a stop to corruption. Halting the inflation burgeoning deficits and bringing under control our runaway national debt.

This is just some of the challenges facing us as a nation, there are many others. Shortsighted policies have got us in this mess, common sense will get us out.

We don't need more politicians figuring out the best policies so they can win the next election or cling to power for a few more weeks or months. We need statesmen working to build Canada into an economic powerhouse, a country where the quality of life for every citizen is something to be envied by the rest of the world.

We have all the ingredients, the resources, the people, the ingenuity, the innovative ideas and the will. We just need the statesmen to lead the way, make the policy, ensure national security, manage our resources wisely and govern ethically.

Thunder Bay - Rainy River, it's time to stand up and be counted, let's work together and take our country back. I am a proud Canadian and firm believer in the people of this nation and the people of this district.

Let's be a major part of bringing it home for Canada and let's make NW Ontario shine as an economic giant among the beautiful regions of Canada.

J.F. Clarke had it correct, we need more long term thinking statesmen, not whatever suits the moment politicians.

I am available by phone, email or in person.

I would be honoured to represent TBRR as a statesman around the decision making tables in Ottawa and as a full time representative for each of you in this incredible district.

God Bless you and God Bless the strong, independent, sovereign, united and prosperous nation of Canada.
